The Argo Middle Market Construction team is looking for an underwriter to underwrite new business and renewals according to authority level and established guidelines.  This underwriter will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing underwriting data in order to determine risk acceptability, calculate appropriate premium, and determine/confirm proper terms for acceptable risks.  This underwriter can be remote or aligned to any Argo US office.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under supervision, underwrite accounts, including risk selection, pricing, and acceptance of new and renewal business.
  • Use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to negotiate terms and pricing with brokers.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with appointed brokers or assigned geographic region.
  • Manage assigned underwriting territory, including management of brokers and travel if required.
  • Reviewing policies and endorsements to ensure policies clearly reflect the terms and conditions agreed upon.
  • Establish and monitoring of products, policies, and profitability as part of a team approach.
  • Participate in structured underwriting training events and programs.
  • Stay abreast and knowledgeable on market trends in terms of forms, coverages, and appetite to maintain competitiveness.
  • Create, analyze, and interpret data from various reports.
  • Maintain an acceptable underwriting profit. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or one to three years related insurance experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Previous insurance educational work, IIA, and CPCU desirable.
  • Detail oriented with initiative and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage deadlines effectively.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Demonstrates strong client focus.
  • Self-motivated and desire to learn about the insurance industry
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Technologically savvy; proficient in the use of MS Office, (Word, Excel, Outlook) as well as Internet Researching.
  • Ability to travel, as needed.

The range provided is for Colorado-based hires only and will be commensurate with candidate experience. Pay ranges for candidates in other locations other than CO may differ based on the cost of labor in that location. Pay range: $80,800.00 – $95,200.00 plus eligibility for an annual bonus based on company and individual performance.
