We believe in paying people fairly, so we’ve established a compensation model aimed to ensure everyone at Fearless — regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, age, nationality, or negotiation skills — is given equal pay for equal work. The salary ranges for this position based on location are listed below. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified as a part of our annual salary range review.
- AL, FL, GA, TN Residents: $66,510 (min) – $84,800 (mid) – $103,090(max)
- NC Residents: $68,567 (min) – $87,422 (mid) – $106,278 (max)
- DE, MD, PA, TX, VA Residents: $71,995 (min) – $91,793 (mid) – $111,592 (max)
- DC Residents: $80,908 (min) – $103,158 (mid) – $125,408 (max)
- CA & NY Residents: $83,651 (min) – $106,655 (mid) – $129,659 (max)

The Engineer I builds, tests, and maintains diverse software systems that solve customer and user problems. They deliver solutions with guidance from experienced team members and based upon documented requirements. Their tasks are performed in a variety of domains including front-end, back-end, operations, testing, and data science.

Responsibilities and Contributions
Organizational and Leadership Role
- Takes initiative for their own growth through personal leadership.
Functional Role
- Delivers code solutions in accordance with team code expectations; follows all team processes for submitting and reviewing code.
- Performs manual exploratory testing individually and with the team, as appropriate for the project test strategy.
- Implements scripts for automation or data processing.
- Assists with refining tasks and user stories by conducting research, preparing for backlog refinement, and asking questions.
- Troubleshoots and debugs technical problems.
- Participates in peer-reviews of assigned tasks and related code.
- Works with the team to continuously learn and improve.
Essential Skills, Experience, or Competencies
Must-Have Skills
- Ability to acquire Public Trust Security Clearance.
- A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated work experience as a Software Engineer or Developer using Java.
- Understanding of the syntax at least one programming language like Node.js, Python, Go, Java 8+, Ruby, etc and ability to.
- Basic understanding with HTML, Javascript and CSS syntax.
- Experience building web applications using object oriented/functional programming concepts.
- Demonstrated interest in and ability to learn new systems and technology quickly.
- Understanding of basic git actions like cloning, creating branches, navigating between branches, staging code for commit, committing code, resetting, and merging.
- Ability to operate and manage work, strategically reason, build relationships, and influence others.
Highly Desired Skills
- Basic experience developing apps hosted with a cloud provider such as AWS, Azure, Heroku, or similar IaaS or PaaS providers.
- Demonstrated ability to investigate and trouble-shoot problems in software systems.

- Introductory Interview: This is where you and your recruiter will build rapport, explore your career and educational background, discuss salary expectations, role requirements, and set expectations for the interview process, specific to the position of interest.
- Technical Interview (Skills Fit): This is where we get into the nitty gritty of the project. During the Technical Interview, you’ll be interviewed by the technical team to dig more into your background and technical capabilities.
- Business Interview: At this point, you’ve made it to the final frontier! The Business Interview is when you’ll meet with Fearless leadership to dot the i’s, cross the t’s, and determine whether or not we’ll be moving forward with the hiring process.

- PTO is provided to team members as a lump sum allowance, not an accrual. PTO is prorated based on your start date (see table below) on a quarterly basis (with tenure-based increases), 8.75 days of sick leave, 11 federal holidays, their birthday (8 hours), up to 15 days for jury duty, and up to 3 days (24 hours) of bereavement leave per eligible instance.
