The International Travel Agency team at Hopper is looking for a backend engineer with a professional history of owning features from the inception of an idea to the monitoring and tracking of a delivered feature. 
We’re looking for a team member who enjoys working in a microservices environment and thrives in technically complex industries like travel. The team is responsible for owning all features end to end in the user booking journey across multiple verticals, such as flights, hotels, cars, and fintech.

What would your day-to-day look like:

  • Planning, investigating, and scoping out an upcoming project that the international team owns
  • Writing code, reviewing code, or improving code
  • Explore engineering improvements for the team and each vertical’s product 
  • Working with our product operations team or product manager to talk through requirements to effectively implement a new feature
  • Meeting with another developer on the international team to discuss a new feature for project planning or pair programming

An ideal candidate has:

  • 5+ years of professional full-time in software engineering with a focus on full stack development
  • Can lead technical conversations, and drive towards smart architecture and system design decisions.
  • Works well with and enjoys working in a product-focused company with a working history of owning features throughout the development life cycle
  • Communicates well not only with developers but product management and operations teams
  • Experience with and likes developing in a microservices environment
  • Proficiency in Scala or other JVM languages, like Java
  • Skilled in various service communication methods, including gRPC, pub/sub, REST, SOAP
  • Clear demonstration of leading and delivering complex, multi-month projects end-to-end
  • Thrives working in technically complex industries like travel
