About the Team

Instacart’s Retail Insights Team sits within the Commercial Excellence org, at the intersection of Instacart’s unparalleled industry data and our most important grocery and non-grocery retail partners. Our retail partnerships are at the core of our business, and this role is focused on leveraging internal and external 3rd-party data to influence business decision making, conduct market intelligence, and unlock growth through a set of Instacart’s most strategic grocery partnerships. This is a highly impactful role that will engage across a range of cross-functional business initiatives with a retailer lens.

About the Role

This Senior Associate will partner closely with the Business Development team on supporting a select number of key retail partnerships. You will strive to understand the dynamics of the marketplace through descriptive analysis, tackle ambiguous problems, and provide the Account Management team with the tools to answer “how did the business perform?”, “why did it perform that way?”, and “how can we improve performance?” You will be a subject matter expert on macro business, operational, and customer trends. This role is a hybrid of external client-facing and internal-facing responsibilities.

About The Job

  • Leverage data and analytics to gain a deep understanding of our business, uncover short and long-term trends, and help drive critical business decision-making for a set of key grocery retailers
  • Partner with our Business Development Retail team to craft business cases to sell-in additional Instacart products and offerings; help prepare and present externally in monthly and quarterly business reviews
  • Tell stories with data; ability to immerse yourself in Instacart’s vast database, pull together the relevant datasets using SQL, conduct analysis on the data to extract the key insights, and then assemble those insights into a compelling narrative and communicate it effectively to key internal stakeholders
  • Conduct deep dive analysis that uncover the root cause of issues, or to unearth insights that can help our partners grow or improve their business
  • Maintain strong stakeholder relationships both internally and externally

About You

  • 3+ years work experience in a quantitative business strategy role. This is a great opportunity for those with experience in Consulting, Banking, Analytics, or similar roles. Experience with retail and e-commerce a plus
  • Advanced SQL, Excel, and data visualization tools experience required
  • Strong analytical skills; ability to logically reason through a complex problem step by step and identify pitfalls
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity; a self-starter with the ability to quickly respond to problems independently, consider all stakeholder needs, and answer the “so what” questions
  • Polished communication skills and ability to manage a number of senior stakeholder relationships, both internal and external
