Location
This role can work remotely from anywhere in the USA. You must be legally authorized to work in the US. Bixal does not provide visa sponsorship.  
 
We seek a highly skilled and experienced Senior Consumer Health Librarian to join our team and support our Federal government client in creating, organizing, transforming, managing, disseminating, and delivering curated, consumer-focused health information. The ideal candidate is a skilled writer and editor with subject matter expertise in medicine or public health. Strong knowledge of medical and public health content is required.
This role will require the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and daily maintenance of health topics, medical tests, and other content, including vocabulary research and development and medical reference knowledge.
  • Write and update information about laboratory and medical topics for an audience of general health information consumers in the United States. Content must be written in plain language, between a 5th-8th grade reading level, and free of grammatical errors and typographical errors.
  • Review web pages, providing analysis and reports on biomedical resources, and recommending changes and corrections.
  • Use a strong medical knowledge and the overall needs of the consumer to write content, including brief information about symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, etc.
  • Categorize and maintain content to ensure it is accurate, up-to-date, complete, unbiased, and follows established guidelines for style and content.
  • Edit internal documentation as methods and processes are updated.
  • Track changes and new work in Jira.
  • Provide timely responses to clients, stakeholders and team members and accommodate requested edits and revisions promptly.
  • As needed, complete other tasks in content creation or review for a public facing consumer health website.
  • Stay current with health news and make appropriate recommendations for additions to a public facing consumer health website.

Minimum Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, plus at least five years of relevant experience.
  • Skilled information specialist with subject matter expertise in public health, health information, or a similar specialty with at least two years of experience in the field.
  • Proven experience writing, editing, and evaluating health information and updating existing content on a public-facing consumer health website.
  • Demonstrated experience tailoring medical content to the overall needs of a general consumer audience. 
  • Strong content strategy expertise to support the effective delivery and dissemination of health information and resources.
  • Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks from different sources.
  • At least 3 writing samples of plain language health information (600+ words)
  • Ability to undergo a background investigation by the U.S. Government and meet eligibility requirements for suitability.

Nice to Haves

  • Degree in medicine, library science or public health communications.
  • Experience as a medical librarian
