Circonus’ Director of Operations leads our Operations team, providing expert technical guidance for Engineering initiatives, while applying best practices to accomplish company objectives.
The Director of Operations is responsible for developing scalable infrastructure to enable rapid deployment, effective monitoring, and high availability in a large-scale Linux environment. You’ll work closely with the Engineering team to ensure that services are designed with scale, operability, performance, and ease-of-use in mind.
Responsibilities
- Drive forward an IT operations roadmap in collaboration with CTO and Director of Engineering
- Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, upgrading and on-call support of all company systems
- Evaluate, prototype, and introduce new technologies, strategies and practices to Circonus’ software engineering team
- Facilitate IT security audits and investigations, software licensing, and overseeing the security of all systems, apps, networks, and enterprise information
- Analyze IT infrastructure and systems performance to assess operating costs, productivity levels, upgrade requirements, and other metrics to ensure efficient use of company resources
- Build and run high performing teams that consistently execute objectives delivering sustainable results
- Build and maintain a culture of accountability, inclusiveness, and continuous improvement
- Manage team priorities with clear processes of Agile/Scrum/Kanban within our Agile Practice
- Measure and report on team execution; coach and improve the performance of existing engineers in your group
- Build and maintain a culture of speed, excellence, collaboration, mentorship, and open feedback
- Identify new ways to improve team productivity without adding stress or overhead
- Proactive thinking to avoid risk and help teams navigate development and architecture pitfalls
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a senior-level operations engineer in a production environment
- 5+ years of experience managing a distributed team
- Strong people leadership and role-model for technical excellence; strong delegation and people management skills
- Strong understanding of Linux systems, both high and low level
- Working knowledge of configuration management tools
- Experience designing and maintaining SaaS and on-premises solutions
- Track record of delivery in complex, high growth technical environments
- Experience working with project management software such as JIRA
- Desire and ability to work remote-first in a high growth company
