Our client, a leading global natural resources company operating across three continents, is seeking to add a Head of Investments – Ventures to its corporate venture capital business unit (“CVC”) based in the United States. This role reports directly to the Vice President – Ventures.

The CVC team is tasked with investing in and managing a strategic portfolio of technology startup companies that can help accelerate the client’s innovation activities today and seed future growth opportunities for decades ahead. Working closely with individuals and teams both inside and outside of the parent company, this CVC team endeavors to generate unique growth opportunities to support the company’s most important strategic priorities.



The Head of Investments – Ventures is a leadership position in the CVC team playing a key role in building the company’s venture investment portfolio while developing a small yet growing team of investment professionals. Responsibilities will include:

  • Investment strategy development: Develop and refine innovation investment theses via discovery and analysis of emerging themes and a strong network across the venture ecosystem.
  • Investment process management: Lead all stages of multiple simultaneous venture deals from sourcing and pipeline development to due diligence, deal structuring, negotiation and closing.
  • Network development: Build and strengthen the team’s innovation ecosystem network to identify top deal flow and maintain relationships with top-tier co-investors, including VCs and other CVCs.
  • Portfolio management: Work with portfolio companies to help grow their businesses both within the company and beyond, including serving in board director and/or observer seats as required.
  • Industry expertise: Maintain a high depth of knowledge regarding the company’s core businesses, as well as relevant industry, competitor, and other trends to maximize resulting opportunities.
  • Develop and cultivate a culture of excellence within the investment team, driving high performance and exceptional quality of work that exceeds industry standards.
  • Corporate engagement: Regularly interface with top executives internally to present industry analyses, portfolio updates, and other insights from the venture ecosystem. Also, work closely with internal business and technical leaders to develop collaboration plans that provide mutual value between the corporation and portfolio companies.
  • Thought leadership: Develop awareness and understanding of the company among relevant startups and investors through thought leadership such as speaking at events or producing written, audio, and other content.
  • Internal operations: Grow and maintain our internal tools and knowledge database and create standardized operational processes to enable the team’s growth.



  • Undergraduate or higher degree in finance, accounting, or related field. An MBA is a plus.
  • 15+ total years of experience. 8-10 years of hands-on early to late-stage investment deal experience with a proven track record in leading deal teams. Additional experience in growth equity, investment banking, and/or private equity is a definite plus.
  • Exceptional quantitative and qualitative analyses capabilities to drive rapid investment decisions with conviction in a fast-paced competitive deal environment.
  • Background or demonstrated interest in natural resources, mining, and decarbonization along with network connections and domain knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and present to internal and external audiences from various levels and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to network effectively with external organizations, venture firms, and other sources of deal flow.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with superior presentation skills. Existing thought leadership presence is a major plus.
  • Ability to travel for deal sourcing, diligence and execution as needed.
  • Capacity for remote work and based within the United States.
