Position Summary:

The Director, Category Development position is a critical leadership support role within the organization. This professional will be responsible for using data and information to help the organization make sound business decisions. The role will be responsible for mining large data sets, leading analysis of business problems, and creating data visualizations while providing recommendations to inform business decisions. This role will support optimizing trade investment funds across retail accounts through but not limited to price and promotional analysis. This role will work closely with our key analytical partners and sales organization to maximize effectiveness with retail partners: telling data-driven stories on how to grow the category and how nutpods can be key to that growth. The position will be responsible for building compelling data driven presentations/stories that can be leveraged by the organization to develop the brand and marketing activity.

Essential Functions:

  • Net Revenue Management: Execute a disciplined management process that optimizes the gross sales-to-net sales equation.
    • Support customer-specific annual plans including trade calendar development, assortment, merchandising, pricing, promotion, and all aspects of trade spending.
    • Adhere to trade spend budgets and meeting overall Profit and Loss goals via this net revenue management process.
  • Category Leadership: Support the continued development of our category leadership strategy, which includes fact-based selling story development and providing business insights to optimize sales and profitability.
  • Winning Customer Relationships: Support win-win customer relationships that position our company as the category expert and consultant for their businesses. The goal is to build strategic alliances that are sustainable over time for the company and our customers based on the complexities and dynamics present in the marketplace.
  • Sales & Operational Process: Execute the Sales & Operational Process built by sales and executive management in partnership with the supply chain and finance functional teams. This includes executing against a team approach to trade planning, forecasting, managing inventory, customer service, and issue resolution.
  • Communication: Develop strong lines of communication internally with the rest of the sales team and cross-functional colleagues, and externally with broker/distributor partners and others to ensure alignment across the business.
  • Administrative: Analyze and report on data for our retail and ecommerce channels (IRI/Nielsen/Spins, Amazon, Shopify for our direct-to-consumer website)
    • Produce monthly consumption report which summarizes retail and ecommerce sales at the consumer level, along with high level insights and action items.
    • Support Sales team with analysis and key slides for customer presentations
    • Perform ad hoc strategic analysis as requested by the executive leadership team.

Requirements

  • Trade Management: Capable of managing a specified trade budget while optimizing investment dollars with accounts. Ability to manage all trade inputs and outputs while summarizing/synthesizing information for the organization.
  • Strategic + Creative Problem Solving: Ability to define the issue/opportunity, gather the facts, develop the range of solutions, sort out the strengths and limitations, and arrive at a recommendation that best meets the needs of the business.
  • Project Management: Strong project management skills; demonstrated ability to manage project from start to finish, including coordinating activities across multiple functional groups with non-direct reporting resources.
  • Budget Management: Proven ability to effectively manage trade spend/selling expense budgets through a well-defined set of processes and methods.
  • Data Manipulation and Analytical Structuring: Ability to organize data sets and reporting tools across different systems and services into comprehensive views that enable multi-retailer, multi-channel insights.
  • Selling Story Development: Proven ability to proactively identify business opportunities/issues; mine the data, define the insights and build fact-based selling tools that support communication to customers.
  • Business Relationships: Must have strong “people” skills, ability to develop strong internal and external relationships and bring to bear your influence across our organization.
  • Written and Verbal Communication: Highly developed written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate status, plans, issues, and updates effectively, appropriately, and in a timely manner.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $120,000 to $190,000 per year, depending on education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities
