CampusWorks consultants engage with our clients in higher education to assist them in fully leveraging their people, processes, policies, and technologies. We work collaboratively with clients’ functional and technical teams and our CampusWorks colleagues to evaluate current processes, design future-state optimal processes, and to architect, develop, test, train, and rollout process and technical solutions that delight our clients.
The Business Data Analyst will be working within a program that is transforming the Finance, Human Resources, and Research Administration support environments across various client colleges and universities, while focusing on people, processes, and technology. This includes the implementation of a new Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) system (Workday) to support the changes. The activities will include the review and redesign of business processes (including use of ancillary and bolt-on IT systems), redesign of the chart of accounts, and integration of efforts with several ongoing University System projects. The Business Data Analyst will serve a vital role within the program.
As part of the consulting team, the Business Data Analyst works with customers and functional subject matter experts to gather requirements, understand needs, analyze the data, create and document data connections (using SQL tools in AWS environments), works with ETL developers on functional/technical specifications to create datasets, understands change data capture and row level security, validates data, and documents data lineage/transformations/definitions for communication and data governance purposes.
Essential Responsibilities
- Collaborates with functional stakeholders to assess reporting needs, gather specifications/requirements, and design reports for development
- Builds simple and advanced data views utilizing SQL queries in an AWS environment
- Collaborates with developers through sharing knowledge, experience, and/or training
- Conduct requirements gathering, analysis, and planning for HR and Finance data related to the project. This includes working with complex data analysis for data reporting and BI systems across multiple ERP systems.
- Contributes to sprint planning and execution using Jira.
- Perform application data and systems analysis. This will include identifying business questions and the data required to answer the questions, then mapping data from legacy and new applications along with identifying dashboard requirements to answer the business question. Preparing documentation to support governance, data catalog and testing efforts is a key part of the job.
- Ensure collaboration across teams in fast moving project environment.
Qualifications
- Associate degree
- A minimum of 1- 3 years data analysis SQL query experience.
- Experience coordinating and collaborating with cross functional partners in validating and documenting data, developing detailed functional specifications for ETL developers and testing the ETL code. Additional preference given for those with experience collaborating in the functional areas of HR, Finance and Grants reporting
- Knowledge and/or experience with Workday data either through building reports or integrations.
- Experience working with XML data.
- Knowledge and/or experience with AWS tools such as Athena, Redshift and using SQL tools such as DBeaver.
- Exposure to Workday, Peoplesoft, or other ERPs.
- Experience using data in the AWS data warehousing platform, in Tableau, or in other warehousing and visualization tools.
- Ability to train/knowledge transfer with other data analysts.
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to diagnose and solve complex reporting issues.
- Experience developing data views in the areas of human resources, accounting, finance, or budgets.
