About the Accounting Team

The Accounting Team is involved in all aspects of the business ensuring we properly capture, account for, and record all the activities that occur as they occur.  We keep the books and records for the Company, help to ensure Thumbtack has appropriate policies and procedures in place, and provide the business with the information in order to make critical decisions in support of Thumbtack’s success.

About the Role

As the Senior Revenue Accountant, you will take an ownership role in ensuring that revenue is properly accounted for under ASC 606. You will help drive monthly and quarterly close activities, perform the validation and reconciliation of revenue and revenue related accounts, analyze data, and prepare reports for auditors and management. This position requires an individual who is smart, detail & goal-oriented, self-motivated and innovative. This team member will report to the Revenue Accounting Manager in charge of month-end revenue close. Prepare and file state and local sales tax returns, work in AvaTax to ensure returns are filed and supporting documents to ensure compliance and balance returns to general ledger. You’re the kind of person who works hard, but likes to have fun and most importantly, takes pride in their work. You love to learn and are excited to grow. 

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the daily operations of the revenue team to drive quality and efficiency including the reviewing and accounting for complex revenue transactions
  • Process and post revenue transactions within NetSuite to ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with company policy and ASC 606, prepare supporting schedules and reconciliations for all revenue and deferred revenue accounts.
  • Identify and help implement process improvements to streamline and automate revenue processes including reconciliations, and analysis
  • Provide regular and ad hoc reports and updates on revenue and work on other ad-hoc projects
  • Assist with ensuring existing systems are operating effectively, and any new systems are designed to optimize resources and automate manual processes

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting 
  • 2+ years of experience revenue recognition experience (including ASC 606) in a technology company (mix of public/private experience a plus)
  • Proficiency in NetSuite and Excel
  • Enthusiastic, upbeat, and positive with the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative startup environment with changing priorities
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to research discrepancies and solve problems
  • Amazing communications and collaboration skills with both accounting and non-finance teams

Thumbtack is a virtual-first company, meaning you can live and work from any one of our approved locations across the United States, Canada or the Philippines*. When it is safe to gather, we will begin to host in-person events on a regular basis. Remote employees will be expected to travel occasionally for these events to a Thumbtack library or offsite team-building location. In cities with 5+ employees, we are establishing local communities, where employees can gather for local events. Additionally, employees in the San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Toronto and Manila areas will have opt-in access to communal workspace at one of our Thumbtack libraries. We always prioritize the health and safety of our employees. Currently, participation in these events and Thumbtack library use are optional. Both require employees to be fully vaccinated.
