MD Retail Marketplace

*this role is open to remote working within the UK. Successful candidates will be required to travel to their closest UNiDAYS hub (London or Nottingham) on occasion.

The MD Retail Marketplace will be responsible for controlling and overseeing all business operations, people and functions within the Retail Marketplace Business Unit. The MD will also be accountable for successfully executing the Retail Marketplace strategy in line with the Group full year and 3 year strategy. You will work closely with some of the biggest brands in the world and help support the business in its vision to support and enable students around the world.

Day to day responsibilities 

Growth strategy

  • Owns the Retail Marketplace Strategy and execution globally.
  • Executes on Global and Regional Retail Marketplace plans in line with UNiDAYS Group strategy and corporate vision, to create long-term value for members and partners
  • Works with peers – Identity & Growth (Learning & Employability) Business Units Leaders, and the Chief Strategy Officer on Business Unit and overall Group strategy.

Business Unit Ownership

  • Responsible for the Retail Marketplace P&L.
  • Accountable for headcount of >50 across Commercial, Marketing & Product.
  • Identifying, recruiting and developing top talent. 
  • Accountable for developing a compensation strategy motivating Retail Marketplace  employees to successfully execute against the strategy.

Capability management & KPI responsibility

  • Manages Marketing, Commercial and Product resources focused on Retail Marketplace – with responsibility to lead, coach, manage and develop the next tier of leadership 
  • Owns delivery of Retail Marketplace Member, Revenue, DC and Management objectives as a global and regional level. Owns delivery of agreed upon volume of members and engagements into the Learning & Employability proposition (Futures)
  • Develops Marketing, Commercial and Product plans to achieve Company KPIs globally – New Members, Activation Rate, Engagements and Members.

Strategic partner management

  • Owns the top 20 global partner strategy, working with the Executive Team  to ensure full business engagement with key partners, with the outcome being deeper relationships with priority partners, greater achievement against partnership fundamentals, successful execution against our partnerside distribution plan, and a team incentivised against long term partnership success


  • Accountable for strategy, execution and objectives against our Retail Marketplace Activation, Engagement and Retention plans.

Growth Steering Group

  • Contributes to the execution of our Group Plan, working with the Executive Team and the leaders of the Identity and Growth Business Units.
  • Contributes to securing effective relationships with key stakeholders, e.g. Institutions, partners, agencies, media & opinion leaders
  • Collaborates as an active member of the GSC and ambassador so as to shape and communicate the direction of the Retail Marketplace Business Unit and wider Company

What we need from you

  • Company Strategy. Hands on experience in developing strategic and business plans
  • Market Dynamics. In depth knowledge of market changes and forces that influence the company
  • Supply side Marketplace experience
  • Extensive experience in senior management 
  • P&L experience
  • Strong network combined with ability to develop talent
  • Thought leadership in D2C
