We’re seeking an experienced Engineer Manager to join our growing software engineering organization in the USA. We’re made up of a set of cross-functional squads, each with a specific area of ownership across the Oura product. You will manage a team of talented mobile app engineers. You’ll take great pride in coaching and guiding them through their careers. In this key position, you will join a squad that truly cares about the Oura mission, product, and quality of our member experience. You and your team will constantly push the boundaries of what’s possible and work together on the future of wearable products.

Location: US – Remote (US East Coast time zone required) 

What you’ll do:

  • Manage a team of mobile app engineers to design, build and maintain features related to health, fitness, activity and movement. These projects are integral to Oura members’ overall experience of health and wellness.
  • Be part of a consumer-facing engineering organization with a charter to deliver a best in class Oura app experience.
  • Contribute to the planning, scoping, and execution of critical projects.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, Firmware, Data, Science, Marketing and other engineering leaders across a global organization, to implement and deliver complex features.
  • Mentor your reports to develop their skills and foster professional growth.
  • Provide technical leadership to your team – while you may no longer write code, you are still deeply technical and will contribute to, and sometimes lead, technical discussions.
  • Evaluate trade-offs and make sound technical decisions that impact entire projects.
  • Champion engineering excellence, establish key metrics, and drive continuous operational improvements.

Requirements

We would love to have you on our team if you have the following:

  • Minimum of 4 years experience in software engineering, plus 2 years managing software engineers.
  • Technical degree or equivalent software engineering work experience.
  • Experience shipping consumer-facing mobile applications and/or the backend services that power them.
  • Enjoy working in a start-up environment that is mission-driven, action-orientated, adaptable, and comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Strong communication and project management skills. Able to drive cross-functional projects from inception to production launch.
  • Strong people management skills. You proudly recognize achievements and successes and also do not hesitate to provide constructive feedback. You are also open to feedback and have a growth mindset.
  • Able to maintain a good work-life balance both for yourself and your team. You understand the significance of promoting well-being, managing workload, and creating an environment that supports a healthy balance between work responsibilities and personal life.

Bonus points for:

  • 6+ years experience in software engineering, plus 4+ years managing software engineers.
  • Professional experience with either Android or iOS native app development prior to becoming a people manager.
  • Collaborative development experience working asynchronously with engineering teams in different countries, time zones, and cultures.
  • Advocate for and strong experience in Agile/Scrum processes.
  • Experience with technical projects involving hardware and/or algorithm development.
  • Experience coordinating and delivering complex app features involving mobile, backend, data science, firmware and QA while also acting as the point of contact for release management to ensure timely app releases.

Oura takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. US locations are categorized into tiers based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. While most offers will be closer to the starting range, successful candidates’ pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, internal peer equity, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

  • Region 1: $200,000-$210,000
  • Region 2: $190,000-$199,500
  • Region 3: $180,000-$189,000
