SUMMARY:

The Director of New Studio Development is responsible for overseeing all processes, training, materials, vendors, tools and resources that support new franchise studio openings and guide owners to plan for and operate a successful studio business by performing the following duties:

  • Participates in sales presentations to franchisee candidates upon request by the Franchise Sales Director.
  • Onboards and guides new franchise owners within the barre3 studio pre-opening and resale process.
  • Maintains the comprehensive structure of milestones, resources, and guidelines for the pre-opening process.
  • Manages development timelines to ensure studios meet critical opening milestones.
  • Drives studio opening performance, metrics and identifies areas of improvement.
  • Supports opportunities for Owner experience shared among new studio Owner cohort.
  • Manages vendor partnerships and contracts to ensure smooth processes from franchise agreement signing to opening.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Provides regular, ongoing, direct support to new franchise owners throughout their pre-opening timeline, and works cross-functionally to deliver holistic tactics that enable a successful barre3 studio opening.
  • Conducts consistent analysis of new studio reporting with actionable insights that uncover new strategic approaches to meet and exceed new studio KPIs.
  • Approves and develops effective operations/Owner training programs and materials, making regular modifications to programs where necessary.
  • Ensures operations/Owner training programs and initiatives are consistent with the business’ overall strategies, objectives, KPIs, and needs.
  • Corresponds regularly via phone and email with owners to provide ongoing information and support.
  • Explains the requirements of approval for locations, test drawings, and drawings for construction.
  • Liaises with vendors to ensure projects deliver on time and/or delays are addressed
  • Provides mentorship and on-going support for new studio owners to drive local brand awareness and membership sales throughout all phases of their pre-opening, including up to 8 weeks post-grand opening.
  • Partners with the Instructor Training team to ensure that new owners are progressing through recruitment and instructor training at the proper pace to meet instructor staffing requirements.
  • Connects new owners to home office resources and manages third party vendors.
  • Flags the internal team on expected timing of critical milestones for new studio development.
  • Maintains and regularly updates a Design + Construction Guide, to contain all relevant specifications and requirements of the studio environment, for use by franchisees and key third parties such as general contractors and vendors.
  • Provides feedback and input on franchise project costs and timelines based on an understanding of barre3 projects across the fleet as well as a holistic understanding of market forces and trends.

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years experience in operation management for franchise, fitness, retail or hospitality – preference given to experience within a barre3 studio.
  • Preferred experience opening franchise locations
  • Preferred familiarity with real estate and construction processes
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS)
  • Excellent communication skills including listening, presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with the client and coworkers, including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Must demonstrate initiative, self-motivation, adaptability, and flexibility.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, attention to detail, analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and work independently on projects from start to finish while developing and fostering critical interdepartmental relationships.
  • Ability to take direction and constructive feedback.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience in premium multi-unit fitness or retail brands offering a high-touch client experience and in an environment managing multiple direct reports with responsibility for project timelines and budgets and/or working knowledge of commercial real estate, commercial construction, and interior design with understanding of market trends and industry standards.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, commissions, proportions, and percentages.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Must be adept at using various applications such as the Microsoft Office & Google Suite, including database management, spreadsheet maintenance and creation, word processing, presentation software, use of scheduling software and communication via email.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram and schedule form.
