THE TEAM
You will work remotely under the leadership of the Senior Legal Counsel, as part of the Finance Department and thus will weigh in a number of decisions that will have legal and financial implications for ALU.
You will collaborate with different teams across the organization, at different levels of seniority and with various external stakeholders, such as authorities and service providers.

ABOUT THE ROLE
You have an entrepreneurial mindset, and are ready to be a strong legal and administrative support for ALU.
Amongst others, your main responsibilities will be to:
RESPONSIBILITIES
Corporate Governance:
- undertake relevant surveys and gap analysis, such as with respect to risk and governance and templates, policies, practices and processes;
- assist in devising and implementing a contract management process, filing system(s) and any other governance policies and procedures.
Data Privacy:
- assist in completing tasks as part of the Data Privacy Project for example, liaising and collecting information from departments across ALU, assisting in drafting and/or review of data maps, registers, standard operating procedures and policies and data processing related agreements etc.
- continuously support to assess and map the organisation’s Data Protection risks and in parallel, support management and other stakeholders in understanding and proactively managing Data Protection risks;
- assist in the project management and follow up of tasks as part of the implementation of the Data Privacy roadmap.
Legal:
- Assist in managing and operating the contract management and consent management tools;
- conduct legal research;
- assist in drafting of templates, policies and legal documents;
- monitor regulatory changes and inform relevant stakeholders;
- conduct relevant benchmarking;
- assist in procuring legal advice;
- assist in providing training;
- assist in following up with litigation and files with external legal.
Secretarial and administration:
- project manage pending and recurrent secretarial items as well as any designated projects for the team;
- follow through and assist in completion of administrative tasks, including insurance renewals and subscriptions;
- assist in drafting policies, manuals and procedures;
- support in organizing and archiving legal and finance team documents;
- act as a point of contact for ALU and secretarial service provider and third parties regarding secretarial/administrative matters (including banks, development boards, etc…)
- assist with statutory filings and payments;
- conduct enquiries with authorities;
- effect minute taking and schedule meetings;
- Collect and dispatch relevant correspondence received or served at ALU’s registered office.
REQUIREMENTS
Required qualifications, functional knowledge and experience:
- Law degree (completed or in final year);
- Data Protection related education is a plus;
- Some experience in the Legal, compliance, secretarial, risk audit and/or Data Protection field;
- Excellent report and drafting skills;
- Analytical and synthetic skills;
- Strong legal research skills;
- Project Management skills;
- Tech savvy. At ease with Google Drive.
Other competences:
- Fluent English written and spoken. Written and spoken French is a plus.
- Good communication skills (verbal and in writing)
- High level of integrity and strong personal character
- Strong drive, engagement, proactive and passionate about responsible business conduct.

Location: Fully remote, unless based in Rwanda or Mauritius, in which case, hybrid working arrangements may apply.
